It is a wonderful thing when you find a restaurant at the beach that offers good food, yummy cocktails, impeccable service, ambiance and plenty of parking. Most places are lacking in one or more of these areas; Michy’s Relaxed Dining, located in the Rehoboth Marketplace shopping center, is the perfect example of subtle attention to detail that will keep diners returning again and again.

Richard and Michelle Davis opened Michy’s in 2014 and the restaurant has been on my radar for years. I could never get my in-laws to try the restaurant, so for this latest beach trip, my husband and I left them behind to finally give the eatery a try.

We made reservations a few days in advance, and despite it being the off-season, it was still quite busy. The walls are decorated with colorful pieces of local artwork and many of the tables offer bench seating with pillows and upholstered chairs.

Our server was warm and welcoming; I told her I wanted a glass of either cabernet sauvignon or pinot noir, so she brought me two to sample. I ended up choosing a delightful pinot noir from Oregon.

My husband and I split the wedge salad, which came divided into three mini wedges. There was just the right amount of creamy, buttermilk and bleu cheese dressing and the sprinkle of scallions on top was a tasty touch.

For our entrees, I ordered the pan-seared chicken Milanese, which is big enough to share. It comes covered in a heaping pile of arugula and is drizzled in lemon. My husband ordered the rigatoni Bolognese, which he surprisingly could not finish. The sauce is a combination of beef, pork and veal and the dish is topped with a heaping scoop of basil-whipped ricotta.

When our server dropped off our bill, it arrived in an old book filled with notes and signatures of those who have dined at Michy’s in the past. It was so fun to flip through and see what people had written and to leave our little stamp on a restaurant that will surely become a welcome tradition at the beach.
