Hand-Crafted Spirits Shine at This Lewes Distillery

Share

Perhaps we’ve been lucky this winter. We haven’t been crushed by a massive snowstorm and the weather has been relatively mild. Regardless, the winter blues can creep in and sometimes, a mental escape is all you need to feel like yourself again.

My suggestion is to pay a visit to Beach Time Distilling, which is located next door to Old World Breads in Lewes. The distillery opened in 2015 and specializes in rum, gin and vodka. Greg Christmas is the owner and distiller who says that he decided to open the business because he likes making and drinking rum.

The petite tasting room has an island vibe, with plenty of Bob Marley playing in the background. Choose from half a dozen different rums, ranging from a silver rum to a coffee-flavored rum. There are three varieties of gin, including Beach Fin Gin, Cucumber Beach Fin Gin and Saffron Gin. There’s a High Tide Vodka, which is made from a gluten-free and corn-based neutral spirit, and Hopka, the distillery’s vodka that has been redistilled with six hop varieties.

The signature craft cocktails are fun and flavorful and range from $6-$8. I sampled the gin mule, which is made with the Beach Fin Gin, muddled lime and ginger beer. It was bubbly and refreshing.

Last year, the distillery unveiled four ready-to-drink craft cocktails. The Tsunami is a mixture of the distillery’s Beach Plum rum, lime and ginger ale and the Volcano is made with the distillery’s Beach Nut toasted coconut rum, guava nectar, pineapple and lime.

The Dark n’ Stormy (spiced rum and ginger beer) and the Gin and Tonic are also available in a can. Cans are sold in four-packs and range from $15-$22.
